Mental health and pressure support for workers.

Looking for work, losing work, money pressure, family pressure and long knock-backs can hit hard. This page gives practical first steps, what to say, and where to get help. It is free for workers, employers, families and public visitors.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 in Australia now. If you are in crisis and need urgent help, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, or 112 from a mobile if you cannot connect to 000.

Quick help checklist

  • Tell one safe person what is going on today.
  • Write down the next tiny step: call, text, shower, food, sleep, appointment.
  • Do not make big life decisions while angry, exhausted or panicked.
  • Keep your phone charged and close if you are waiting for work calls.
  • Ask for help early. You do not have to wait until everything has fallen apart.

When job hunting is getting to you

Rejection can feel personal, but most of the time it is timing, location, tickets, experience, transport, or the employer already had someone lined up. Keep a simple application record and improve one thing each week.

What to say when asking for help

Try: “I am under pressure and need a hand to get organised. Can you help me with one thing today?” Simple words are enough. You do not need to explain your whole life at once.

Money stress

Write down rent, food, fuel, phone, fines, debts and income. Then call the most urgent bill first and ask for hardship options. Many places can pause, split or reduce payments if you contact them early.

Workplace stress

Keep notes of dates, times, people involved and what was said. Stay calm in messages. Ask for instructions in writing if things are unclear. Use support before walking off a job unless you are unsafe.
